SoHo, NYC
A downtown glow up.
T and D was filled with many eclectic pieces of furniture that didn’t permit any storage or dual use flexibility. Without any type of organizational plan, all of their belongings were haphazardly stored causing frustration when they were looking for something specific. Additionally, they keep a Kosher kitchen, so separation of dishes and cooking utensils in a small NYC apartment became key. T and D wanted a hard reset on in their living space to follow organizational practices, rather than establish their own.
Having an organizational language for a space was the biggest take away from this project. While having all books or shoes gathered in the same place, predicting and arranging items in terms of frequency of use became the most important attribute, even if they were deemed “fancy”. Analyzing what items were actually used compared to what “should” be used determined their placement, storage and grouping with similar items. While unconventional, the owners felt that they had tamed their belongings!
