Bob the Corgi

An eComm solution to promote an author’s gorgeous Corgi-centric art book.

User Research, Website, Branding, Photo + Video Production

OVERVIEW

Author Jennifer Hendren wanted a website to share and promote her first book in a series, Bob Comes Home.

Create an uncomplicated eComm website to promote and sell a series of physical books.

THE CHALLENGE

Corgi’s are having a moment. From Maxine, the fluffy corgi promoting dog carriers to seeing Queen Elizabeth’s corgis in The Crown, it’s hard to find anyone not drawn to their tiny legs and warm personalities.

Author and designer Jennifer Hendren, over the course of years, created an art book series featuring her beloved Corgis.

While Jennifer had a clear vision of how she wanted her book to be physically, when it came to presenting her tactile work in the digital medium, she sought assistance to help translate her work into an eComm website.

As this website will be self-managed by the author, creating templates and a system for ease of use was the top priority.

DESIGN / BRANDING

Bob Comes Home, the first book in the Bob Books series, was created in a concertina style (accordion) book. It was important to the author to have a physical, tactile product and wanted to convey that to website visitors.

The branding for the Bob Books series was to feel graphic, playful and tactile. A clean logo that has a nod to the serif type used in the book was created, mapped over the texture of corgi fur.

Partnering with a content creator, playful collages were created to visually express each corgi’s personality and preferences.

The representational ‘corgi color’ also correlates to the fabric cover of the book that the particular corgi will be featured.

THE WEBSITE

We interviewed the author to discover her ‘why’ and learn more about her book series. Placing the video above the fold encourages viewers to hear directly from the author and get an overview of her work with more immediacy.

I used the icon that will be found on the cover of all the Bob Books to create visual interest in the background. The color palette was pulled from the corgi’s coloring and provided a contrast to the aqua book cover.
